You’re Invited: Planning Global Citizen Science Month, April 2020

Global Citizen Science Month

April 2020 is Global Citizen Science Month, and SciStarter, Arizona State University, the Citizen Science Association, and many other partners from around the world will provide free resources, support, and an event calendar to help you promote your event or share local events and projects with your communities.

I’m Caroline Nickerson, SciStarter’s Program Manager for Global Citizen Science Month.

We’re building on what we learned with Citizen Science Day in 2019 (which fell on April 13). It was so inspiring to see libraries, institutions, community groups, and individuals doing citizen science: real scientific research.

With Global Citizen Science Month, you’ll be able to celebrate citizen science throughout all of April 2020. If you’d like to sign up for emails about Global Citizen Science Month, feel free to do so via this form (and forward it to a friend!). And once you start to formulate your plans, please add your event to SciStarter.

Weekly Calls

Some of you may have attended our weekly calls last time around. These were essentially citizen science “office hours;” anyone organizing an event or citizen science effort for April was able to dial-in, share ideas, and get feedback. We also provided support for conducting citizen science activities and advice about how to use resources.

We have selected our first weekly call times for Global Citizen Science Month so international partners can call in at the time that’s best for them, and we recently revised our call times based on feedback. This will be the first of many calls leading up to and through April, so don’t stress if you miss it! We’re so excited to work with you and to help get people doing citizen science.

Call times:

  • 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM EST (New York), Thursday
  • 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM EST (New York), Thursday
  • 8:00 PM – 8:30 PM EST (New York), Thursday

Running Agendas, Notes, and the zoom dial-in will be in this document through the end of April 2020 (feel free to add comments or ideas you have!).

Purpose of the Weekly Calls

With these calls, you’re part of the Global Citizen Science Month Community! These free, open weekly calls are a time to share ideas and make Citizen Science Month plans. This open invite applies to anyone organizing a Global Citizen Science Month event.
